I am writing you on behalf of For Freedoms to invite you to be a part of the 50 State Initiative Billboards Campaign. We would like to see if any of your students would be interested in documenting one or more of our 100 billboards that will be installed across the US in all 50 States, plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico, starting October 1st.For Freedoms seeks to use art to deepen public discussions of civic issues by re-appropriating political advertising media such as billboards. We believe art and artists play an important role in galvanizing our society towards a more representative and transparent government. As we enter the final phases of this large-scale public art project, we thought it would be productive and exciting for student photographers to play a part.
You can view our map of billboard locations on the image above to see what might be located in your school's vicinity. Our attached Billboard Documentation Style Guide illustrates the type of photography we hope to receive. Of course, we want photographers to also send photographs in their personal style and vision in addition to these standard photographs.
If your students are interested in volunteering as documentary photographers, or have any questions, please click the link below to fill out our google form:
Once an interested photographer fills out our form and indicates that they would like to photograph a board in a particular City, State, we will reach out to them directly with exact billboard coordinates.
Thank you so much! We are hoping to photograph the billboards beginning October 5 and receive final images by October 17. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you think may be interested.
My very best,
